Second Trimester Recap

The second trimester flew by. I’m now in my third trimester, and in seven weeks, we’ll be meeting our baby girl. We are excited, anxious, and rushing around to get everything ready for her. A couple of months ago, my belly really popped, and since then, strangers congratulate us and ask my due date or if we’re having a boy or a girl.

How far along: 33 weeks (currently in my third trimester)

How big is baby girl: She is the size of butternut squash.

Weight gain: In my second trimester, I gained about 20 pounds from my pre-baby weight.

Morning Sickness: Everyone told me my morning sickness would end by 12 weeks, but I wasn’t so lucky. Even though the throwing up, dry heaving, and nausea continued, it wasn’t every day, and eating some crackers or bread helped.

Maternity clothes: Since it’s the summer, I’ve been able to get away with wearing flowy dresses. The only thing I bought was a pair of maternity denim shorts.

Stretch Marks: No stretch marks yet (knock on wood). I have been religiously applying a stretch mark cream every day to keep my skin moisturized. My belly button has gone from an innie to an outie, and I have developed the linea nigra, which is the dark line that runs between your belly button and your pelvis.

Heartburn: I never had heartburn before, so when I first started to experience that delightful burning feeling in my throat, I wasn’t sure what it was. But after some research, I read that there are several ways to control and treat heartburn during pregnancy:

  • milk
  • almond milk
  • sugarless gum
  • papaya
  • almonds

Food Cravings: Throughout the second trimester, I craved sweets and carbs. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, but the cravings have been a lot stronger with pregnancy.

Sleep: Besides getting up to use the restroom every couple of hours, my sleep has not been too bad. I go to bed around 9-10 pm, and then I usually can’t sleep past 6 am.

Baby Kicks: I started to feel her kick around week 21, and every week, the kicking got stronger and stronger, especially after dinner.

Overall, the second trimester has had its ups and downs. But I am so grateful for every moment, even if I’m leaning over a toilet! And that takes us to my third trimester. I can’t believe how fast my due date is approaching, and we can’t wait to meet our sweet girl!
