I’m so excited to share the gender of our first baby with you all today! Were you team girl or team boy? If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you probably already know, but if not, surprise, it’s a GIRL!!! Every poll I took, team girl won in a landslide. Bring on the dresses, bows, and tutus! I hope that my little girl and I will be best friends, just like my mom and me.
HOW WE FOUND OUT
Kurt and I couldn’t wait to finally find out if we were having a baby boy or a baby girl! At week 14, I had a genetic blood test to look at chromosomes 13, 18, and 21. This test also identifies the baby’s gender. Waiting to get the results were stressful, especially knowing what we went through with our first pregnancy. I’ll be writing a post soon discussing our fertility journey. When we received the phone call a couple of days later, we were so relieved to hear that there were no abnormalities but also that it was a girl! I had a pretty strong sense of this baby’s gender from the very beginning. According to old gender wives’ tales, I had all the ‘girl’ pregnancy symptoms, I was extremely sick and had crazy hormonal breakouts.
PICTURE DAY
Because of Covid-19, we couldn’t have a proper celebration to reveal the sex, so we opted for a photoshoot…shot by us! We decided to do a smoke bomb reveal; I love how ethereal they look. I found a beautiful wildflower field that was the perfect place to set off the pink-colored smoke.
The day of the shoot was perfect; we had clear skies and shot at golden hour. The smoke bombs went off for 90 seconds, giving us just enough time to get in a couple of different poses. I recommend using two bombs (we bought four just in case we messed up) and placing them a couple of feet behind you and off to the sides. Also, make sure the wind is blowing away from the camera.
The photos came out beautifully, definitely a moment we’ll never forget, and one of the happiest, for sure!. My husband and I are over the moon, and we can’t wait to meet our baby girl in September of 2020. My heart (and belly) are so full! Now – bring on the name ideas!
