Ikea Dresser Hack

Today I am sharing a quick and easy DIY project that will save you hundreds! When I first started picking items for my daughter’s nursery, I fell in love with the Pottery Barn Ava Regency Dresser; what I didn’t love was the price tag. At a whopping $1299, I knew there had to be a cheaper way to achieve the same look but at a lower price point.

Ikea Hack

I decided to purchase the Ikea Hemnes 8-drawer dresser in a white stain, which only cost $249. The next thing I did was switch out the black knobs for these gorgeous crystal knobs that I found on amazon. Lastly, I ordered decorative overlays, which made the biggest difference. My O’verlays is a company specializing in decorative fretwork panels that come in several patterns and sizes and are specifically made for Ikea furniture! I chose the Anne Kit. They come in white, but you can choose to paint them any color you like. By adding these chic O’verlays and updating the hardware, I turned my simple Ikea dresser into a stylish and expensive-looking piece of furniture. Here’s how you can achieve this quick and inexpensive Pottery Barn knockoff for under $400!

Supplies:

Applying the overlays was super easy. I measured the drawers to find my center mark along the top and sides and did the same for the overlays. Next, I dapped liquid nails all around the panels. Avoid applying too much, as it will seep out from the seams once attached. Afterward, I lined up the panels with my premade marks and pressed firmly to set. And voila, easy as that!

I absolutely love how this Ikea hack turned out! By using My O’verlays, I was able to completely customize and transform my simple Ikea dresser into a stylish Pottery barn dupe, and it only cost a fraction of the price.

Cost Breakdown:

Total Cost: $383.38

Hi there! I was looking at the overlays website for the trim panels used for the ikea dresser and I was just wondering what size trim you got for each of the drawers from the Anne kit? They are all so close in size and I don’t want to order the wrong ones! Any help would be amazing! Thank you!
