30 things I’ve learned in my 30’s

As we end 2019 and enter into a new decade, I’ve done some self-reflecting as most do at this time of the year. Today I’m sharing some lessons I’ve learned in my 30’s because it’s 2020, and sharing is caring.

  1. Trying and failing again is normal.
  2. I’ve learned to appreciate my body, flaws, and all. After all, no one is perfect.
  3. Get rid of the drama…life is too short for it. You choose what you allow into your life. If it disrupts your peace, it isn’t worth it.
  4. Find people that bring joy to your life and focus on being positive.
  5. It’s ok to outgrow friendships. I prefer to keep a small inner circle of my ride or dies, rather than a large circle of friends who are inauthentic.
  6. Less is actually more – in terms of makeup. In my 20’s, I was insecure and piled on the makeup. Now that I’m in my 30’s, I prefer a lighter look.
  7. Choose your words carefully; I’ve learned to think carefully about what I say and only say what I actually mean/want.
  8. Hit that unfollow button for anyone on social media that makes you feel bad about yourself.
  9. Don’t stress over your mistakes. Life is short — forgive yourself and keep it movin’. Mistakes are only mistakes if you don’t learn from them.
  10. Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone has challenges, and no one’s life is perfect. Remember that social media only represents the best aspects of their life.
  11. Life isn’t fair. Some people have it better than you, but there are also people who have it way worse than you. Be grateful for what you have.
  12. Bad situations don’t last forever. Keep in mind that tomorrow is a new day, and usually, things seem brighter in the morning. A little wine never hurts either.
  13. Don’t let people take advantage of you. It’s empowering to stand up for yourself.
  14. I have a zero-tolerance for bullshit.
  15. I look forward to going to bed early instead of partying until 4 am.
  16. Netflix and chill is seriously my motto these days.
  17. A hangover will last a couple of days. Gone are the days of drinking all night and getting up for a boozy brunch the next morning.
  18. It’s ok to change careers a couple of times, even in your 30’s.
  19. Botox and anything else that you want to do is your choice and no one else’s. Just make sure you do your homework before you choose a doctor.
  20. Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s ok.
  21. This was a big one for me: if someone shows you who they are, believe them because you sure as hell can’t change them…especially a man!
  22. Listen to your mom and wear that sunscreen. Wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancer are no joke!
  23. Listen to your gut instinct – it’s usually right.
  24. Be thankful! Gratitude will make you a much happier person.
  25. Take risks – move to the city, take that job, ask that special person out. You only live once, and it would suck to look back and regret not taking action on something that you wanted.
  26. Live alone. I think every woman should try to do it at some point in her life. It allows you to be truly independent and learn about you.
  27. Get a hobby, whether it’s photography, writing, or drawing. It’s a great way to release everyday stress and recharge.
  28. Be kind. I believe in Karma and what comes around goes around.
  29. Pick and choose your battles. Sometimes peace is better than being right.
  30. I never thought I would be saying this, but working out isn’t that bad and I am one of those people that actually enjoys going to the gym now…who am I?
